Gentlemen,

This is  to verify  that Douglas  B. Lenat  will be  employed by  the
Computer Science Department of Stanford University, commencing August
1, 1978.  Professor Lenat's  12-month salary will be $25,333.  I have
been  informed that Professor  Lenat has estimated  his earnings from
honoraria to total another $1200 annually, and I believe this to be a
reasonable figure.  We look forward to having Professor Lenat with us
for many years.
